Senior Systems Database Engineer

Looking for an exceptional Database Engineer who will report to the Director of Systems and is passionate about persistence data store and who thinks/acts globally. An ideal candidate will possess both a database engineering background and has experience with a wide range of problem solving situations. The role will focus on working with a team of desktop engineers, BI developers and tech savvy professionals to lay down scalable data architecture for large amounts of structured and unstructured data persistence store to create a coherent customer view
Responsibilities for Database Engineer
  • Ensuring that data being used is secure and available
  • Develop and improve the current data architecture for SQL Server and SQL Express
  • Monitor and manage database security and software performance, the DB's logical design, and data architecture to ensure optimal performance to data consumers, both human and machine
  • Documenting the current state and planning for future improvements of the architecture of database(s)
  • Refining database(s) to meet current and projected storage requirements and aid in data retention planning
  • Installing and testing DBMS updates
  • Ensuring that storage, archiving, and backup and recovery procedures are functioning properly
  • Review, design and develop data models in conjunction with the application development teams
  • Implementing best practices as defined by departmental and industry standards
  • Maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external customers
  • Working with front-end developers and participating "on-demand" with field service teams when a real-time, immediate, engineering solution is required
  • Root cause analysis of production-related database issues
  • Designing, documenting and maintaining product architecture congruent with technology and market trends.
  • Mentor and develop database engineers. Skills/Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, similar, or 10 years relevant work experience
  • At least 5 years’ work experience in database development and support in MSSQL
  • Experience in SQL design and coding (tables, views, indexes, functions, stored procedures, triggers, constraints, etc.); SSIS or similar ETL tool; and SSAS, or similar management tool
  • Strong knowledge of dimensional modeling and other data warehousing techniques.
  • Game industry experience preferred; MCTS, MCITP, MVP, MCSE, MCDBA or MCSD is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, research, and troubleshooting skills and experience in performance tuning.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Desire to tackle complex problems.
  • Understanding of Risk assessment as it pertains to software functionality and data integrity.
  • Agile methodology or passion is a must.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as, with a team.
