Job Summary

Provide technical leadership and systems engineering management for a project team. Apply systems engineering processes and skills to systematically convert customer needs into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Responsible for systems planning, system and lower level requirements development, system design, analyses and trade studies, hardware/software design oversight, system integration, system level test, and subcontractor technical management/oversight. Provide input and support for project risk management activities. This position typically works under general supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Advanced Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering teams on existing and new systems and system components
  • Assists with vetting out technical vendors and providers
  • Ability to create product and software flow charts, system block diagrams and ICD documents.
  • Assist with growing a software engineering team and have oversight on processes, procedures and best practices
  • Provides technical oversight on a given project
  • Estimates, plans, schedules, and executes systems engineering activities for a given project
  • Allocates system requirements to hardware/software and oversees development/refinement of lower-level requirements
  • Performs analyses and trade studies as necessary to aid in the selection of system concepts
  • Integrates specialty engineering disciplines into a project team
  • Directs a project team to define and document the system architecture and design
  • Oversees developing hardware and software designs to ensure compliance with requirements and system design
  • Performs hardware/software integration planning and oversees activities
  • Performs system level test planning and oversee test implementation
  • Interfaces with both internal and external technical and management representatives
  • Performs technical risk management activities
  • Performs lead engineering activities for proposal efforts
  • Monitors, mentors, and trains less experienced systems engineers

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Four-year college degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related technical discipline, plus five years of related experience, or an applicable Master’s degree with three years of related experience.
  • Experience in creating, analyzing, documenting and testing system and subsystem designs.
  • Experience in full product design, development, manufacturing and testing.
  • Understanding of full software design flow from low level hardware implementation to OS and Application levels.
  • General background with reading and writing code in some form of programming language with an understanding of best design practices.
  • Background in working with Applications Processors, MCUs, and PICs along with a general understanding of the device architecture and applicability in different areas of product design. 
  • Hardware design experience with working with high speed communication busses for both wired and wireless applications.
  • General understanding of system power distribution networks for multi-level voltage regulation applications.
  • Must be able to analyze schematics and interpret electrical component data sheets.
  • General knowledge of industry standards such as FCC, CE, UL, and automotive.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills and ability to convey highly technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to use personal computer software such as spreadsheets and word processing programs and requirement management database tool. Mental ability to perform engineering problem solving and analytical tasks.
  • Must be able to multitask efficiently and support a variety of different projects.
  • Must be able to work under project deadlines and associated cost and schedule constraints.
  • Must work well in a team environment.

  • Software Experience
    • Mobile software development (Objective-C/Swift for iOS and Java for Android)
    • MCU Firmware (ARM M0/M4, Atmel, Microchip, etc)
    • Experience with C/C++ programming language
    • Operating Systems (Embedded LINUX, Android, RTOS, BareMetal)
    • Encoding and decoding audio and video formats
    • Understanding of U-boot, Linux Kernel, device tree, and driver development.
    • Source control with Git Hub repository usage
  • Hardware Experience
    • Broad understanding of electronic engineering and design principles
    • Application processors – (i.MX6 preferred)
    • MCUs – (ARM M0/M4, 16-bit, 32-bit)
    • Memory Devices (NAND, NOR, MMC, SDHC, SDRAM)
    • High speed data busses such as DDR3, HDMI, SERDES and USB
    • Wireless communications (Wi-Fi, BT, GPS, Cellular)
    • Audio and Video codec ICs
    • Power Distribution networks, PMICs, SMPS, LDOs
    • Experience with Schematic Capture and PCB layout tools - Orcad or Altium preferred
    • Capable of supporting the review of complex designs for EMC and HDI de
